Exclusive Interview with Diane Foster
Big welcome to Diane Foster! You are such a powerhouse woman. Tell us how this year is kicking off for you? Any new projects?
Thank you for that lovely intro! This year has been off to a great start. I just produced a tv pilot for the legendary screenwriter Darryl Quarles, I am in pre production on two features, one that I am directing, the other I am acting and producing, a documentary in post production, a finished short that is hitting the festival circuit, a music video in post and lots of interviews and podcasts ahead, so a very busy and wonderful time. I am truly grateful for the work and opportunities and I actually really love working, love what I do, so it's all a very good thing.
If you could pick just one - what has been your favorite project you have directed and why?
I am still somewhat new to directing with a handful of music videos and a short film but I am looking forward to directing a feature. I would say so far my favorite is the "Nobody Cares" music video I did that is currently in post production for the artist/guitarist JUNO. It was shot in Chicago and LA and has lots of talented creatives involved. It's exactly what I had in mind for the vision and what JUNO and I discussed extensively and prepped for, so to see it start to come together is wonderful.
What is your one go to beauty item that you don't leave the house without?
I'm a mascara girl all the way. Just that alone can make you look like you spent time doing your makeup even if you have not and brightens your eyes! They say the eyes are the window to the soul and giving them a boost with beauty is giving your soul a big hug!
What solid advice can you give to women in the industry that may be feeling down or that want to give up?
It's hard sometimes, but the obstacle is the way. Don't give up because you don't know what's around the other side. It may sound cliche but it's the truth. Of course, sometimes you have to change things up or come at something with a new strategy or approach, but never give up. All the best stories that are super inspiring are of the people that looked the obstacle in the eye and said, I will use this to teach myself better and become better at what I do and not let it deter me from my passion and what I love or what I was meant to do. No one knows you better than you, so dont allow other people to tell you or make you think you should give up. You are worthy and deserving of all that you desire and more. Keep going and write notes of positivity for yourself and see the energy start to shift and your mindset. I believe in you and want you to believe in you!
So many people have a word of intention for the new year - do you have one? If so, what is it and why did you choose it?
Self love, self care, parenting myself. It all starts with me. If I am ok with me then I can be ok in every other arena of my life. I practice this on the daily. It is not selfish to love yourself. It's actually extremely important. You can do amazing things when you do the inner work. You will realize the things you can do to better yourself and embrace everything you are flaws and all. We all have them and when you spend the time getting to know yourself, everything else in life will get easier. Read books and spend time with yourself because at the end of the day that relationship is the longest and best one you will ever have.
What is your favorite movie of all time?
Dirty Dancing. I have watched probably a million times. And yes I would remake it in a heartbeat and be true to the original.
