Promising new artist on the folk scene is James Billett, a man whose talents were encouraged by none other than Elton John and who has just lent his voice and songs to Talentbanq’s Pride celebrations in collaboration with Camden Chapel.
Performing from the comfort of their own (various) living rooms, James Billett was amongst a talented bunch of performers and recording artists who contributed their work for a celebration of Pride and queer art.
Whilst admitting that he was coming from the perspective of a straight man, Billett was able to empathise with the LGBTQ community to perform a truly emotive set which saw him playing guitar and singing along in front of the camera like a pro. Never one to pass up on a political topic, Billett’s songs often speak about the experience of the marginalised - with a sensitivity and empathy which the rest of this world could sorely use.
His vocals are near-whispered and earnest, the lyrics are poetic but grounded in realism and delivered with an urgency which demands you listen.
