Single Review: Sarantos "I Just Don't Care"

Sarantos (www.melogia.com) is the very definition of a compulsive creator. His preferred way of working is to release something new almost every week; music, videos, words. For anyone who likes to have something new to hear or see regularly, he’s your guy.

He’s an award winning solo music artist, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, writer and poet, radio show host...you get the picture. Creation - Sarantos does it. His influences are wide, encompassing the pomp of Queen, the funk of Michael Jackson and the DIY ethic of Ed Sheeran. He’s been releasing productions for almost eight years. Productions, you ask? Yes: new songs, music videos, book chapters and poems. In the last few years he has released 14 albums with 178 original tracks as well as seven fiction/fantasy books to be enjoyed alongside the songs.

Sarantos has undertaken to release a new song and lyric video during the first week of every month, a new music video for the second week, a new book chapter the third week, and a new behind the scenes video & poem the fourth week of every month. The CD and book are then made available in November with a CD of instrumental music. He may not claim Prince as a musical influence, but his work ethic plainly comes from the Purple One. He doesn’t have one particular sound, but his work has been described as a fusion of classic 80s rock blended with modern soft rock and pop.

His latest release I Just Don’t Care is nearly six minutes long. It builds from a quiet start to a chorus, then returns to an ethereal sound with repeated cymbal flourishes. The time signature and key change throughout the song. The lyrics refer to the guilt he felt at being unable to help the subject through a difficult time of their life, and the sense of not caring about anyone else except them when he looks at them. This could be about a partner but is more likely to be about his father, who died in 2010 after a long battle with cancer.

As you might expect with such an elevated work rate, Sarantos has been nominated for a variety of music awards including Akademia LA Music, Beat 100, Josie Music Awards and the Hollywood Songwriting Awards, winning 49 times to date. He has amassed over one million social media followers and ranks consistently at the top of Reverbnation’s rock genre worldwide. His songs are popular around the world on the iTunes charts and he hosts The Songwriter Show on Pesmou Radio, which also attracts worldwide listeners. This may be the best way to get a feel for the force of nature that is Sarantos, as he keeps his listeners on their toes with music from every genre and some surprises too.

Sarantos donates a portion of all his earnings to charity, with the monthly beneficiary chosen by his fans. In that way he has helped many cancer and humanitarian charities over the years. He is active on every mainstream social media platform; Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram. His ever-increasing body of work can be found on iTunes & Apple Connect, Spotify, Soundcloud, Vimeo and Reverbnation. He works totally independently, with no studio, label, ad agency or radio promoters. Just Sarantos. And his creations.
