Single Review: Sarantos "I Wish"
Alternative music workhorse Sarantos continues his endless pursuit to constantly release new music with his latest single, “I Wish.” Unlike many of Sarantos’ songs, this new single from the artist is much more self reflective and contemplative. It’s also vastly pessimistic, so for people who are sensitive to topics like depression may find the song hits rather close to home.
Sarantos’ work ethic is quite unlike any other performer, as he constantly releases new music non-stop. On top of that, he also releases a new book chapter, a new poem, and even a new music video at least once every month. His music tends to be joyful and humorous in nature, usually with a fascinating and funny story behind it. “I Wish,” however is a lot different from his usual fare.
“I Wish,” is a sad, depressing and self reflective single, with many of the lines being quite dark. It does however reflect how Sarantos feels, and thus that does make it quite the interesting song. The lyrics here are once again reflective, as Sarantos wails about how he wishes he wasn’t himself, and this theme repeats itself many times throughout the song.
Sarantos’ vocal delivery is still as unique as ever, though it surprisingly works well with the more emotional themes here. It’s a pained, sad delivery, selling on the song’s ideas and themes in great fashion. His singing on “I Wish,” also sounds genuine, which is surprising considering the more overblown style he sings in.
Production-wise, the song is a bit messy, but it does lend to the atmosphere of the song. It reflects the singer’s messy mental state, and the harshness of some of the synths play into this idea quite well. The melodies are still catchy, though there’s a demure tone to them. With all that said, it’s surprisingly enjoyable to listen to.
In conclusion, Sarantos’ “I Wish,” is a powerfully resonant song, one that tells a story beyond what you’d expect from the artist. It successfully throws in many turns and thoughts, which will leave you thinking and reflecting on what you’ve just heard. We quite like the change in direction by the artist, which is very bold.
