Ashley Puckett burst onto the country music scene in the fall of 2020 with her debut single, "Medicine." The song received glowing reviews and set the stage for the follow-up, "Bulletproof." That single made it all the way to #1 on the New Music Weekly country radio charts, making Ashley one of the most exciting new artists to come out of Pittsburgh in quite a long time. With the uncertainty of these times, one thing IS for certain...Ashley Puckett is feisty, fierce, talented, and ready for whatever life throws at her! We had the pleasure of interviewing the platinum blonde star-in-the-making....
Hi Ashley! Obviously, 2020 was a very unusual year, and 2021 has started off in the same way. How did you find sanity and normalcy during COVID?
I'm not sure I completely did. Haha. It's been interesting in both my career and personally. Everything going on has changed everyone; the way they act, talk to others, associate with one another, it's like we're not even human anymore and it's really disturbing for someone like me who enjoys being around others and being social. Musically, i've just taken things one day at a time and doing as much as i can via social media which is where alot of people were and still are.
You had a pretty successful year on the music front. What was the highlight for you?
Yes. I'm very excited about all that's happened so far and what's to come. I think the biggest highlight was our Number 1 song "Bulletproof" on the New Music Weekly Country Chart. We also were hanging in there for a bit on the Music Row charts with "Live Like You Love" and that was pretty cool, too.
Your single, "Live Like You Love" is beautiful. What inspired you to record that song?
Thank you! When we first started this project, my debut album, one of the most fun parts to me was song selection. This song was actually the first song i said "YES" to. It reminded me alot of the innocent Leann Rimes songs i'd listen to and it was just very pretty. I loved the lyrics, the melody, and what the song stood for.
Congrats on several awards that you're up for. What do industry awards mean to you?
I've dreamed of winning many awards such as a Grammy, AMAs, CMAs, etc. All of the awards that i have nominations for now and all of those that are hopefully yet to come mean so much! To me, it's that next level of respect in the industry from both your fans and others in the business.
Any plans for another single release from your "Never Say Never" album? When are you planning to record a follow-up single or album?
Absolutely! I'd say very soon you'll be hearing about another release!
Any plans on live performances? Where would you love to perform?
Yes! My first show back will be opening for Mark Chesnutt on June 4th at Jergel's Rhythm Grille in Warrendale, PA Now that everything is opening up again, i'm sure i'll be booking some more. I'd love to perform at the Opry. That's always something that i thought would be a cherished opportunity and memory.
Dream duet...who would that be and what kind of song would you sing?
Female, Miranda Lambert! Male, Keith Urban or Chris Stapleton. would have to be a love song with the men. and with Miranda, i love her fiery personality so i'd say it be something fun and edgy.
If you could meet your favorite singer, who would that be, and what would you say to them?
Through the years there's so many. Miranda Lambert is probably number one. She's shaped her way though the industry so well and on her own terms and although it took time, she has such an attitude and is doing so much and i'd absolutely love to talk with her about all kinds of stuff! Music, her journey, love, life and anything else! i just love her!
What are your favorite things to do, outside of music?
Anything fun i'll try once haha. I love to skydive, bungee jump, travel, cruise the open water, watch movies, and try new things.
Any final words for our readers?
I just want to thank anyone who is reading this for the love and continued support through my journey. Keep up with me on social media and my website www.AshleyPuckett.com
