Ananda Xenia Shakti "Cosmic Quiver"

Ananda Xenia Shakti is a surprisingly atypical music act. Made up of band members with long histories as musicians, performers, healers and spiritual aspirants, they’re spearheaded by the titular singer, who herself is a former punk singer. Together, they make relaxing, soul pleasing comfort music, and they’re now here with a new single in ‘Cosmic Quiver.’

‘Cosmic Quiver,’ opens with soulful melodies and a sweet beat that fits the bands Indian influences. Their signature style is the first thing that jumps out to us, being a blend of many different foreign styles that you rarely find in modern music. It’s soft, soothing but still upbeat. In a way, the beat’s slow but steady rhythm is almost energizing to listen to.

Of course, the song wouldn’t be complete without its vocal performance, courtesy of Miss Ananda Xenia Shakti herself. Mostly comprised of calming chants and smooth background vocals, her performance here is cool and controlled. It makes for a surprisingly engaging listen, and you may find yourself nodding along as the song strolls on.

While it’s a mostly laid back tune, there’s a lot of complexity going on in the background. A lot of ethnic instruments are thrown into the mix, giving the song its own personality and character. These are all of course hallmarks of Ananda Xenia Shakti’s style, but this mix always makes things unique and a lot of fun. There are many different details in the background that demand a more thorough listen or two.

This level of complexity wouldn’t be possible without the excellent sound mixing going on. Despite the busy and complex arrangement, the overall mix is mellow, calm and collected. Things slowly build up and then gently break down, resulting in an enthralling experience. These are also exactly the type vibes that Ananda Xenia Shakti goes for with her art, so we’re happy to see how well she hits the mark here.

‘Cosmic Quiver,’ isn’t your normal single, that much is clear from the very first listen. It doesn’t rely on tricks to be catchy, instead choosing to appeal to those looking for something fresh. The single carries a unique vibe with it that you can’t really find elsewhere. It’s a stark contrast from your average pop song.

Overall, ‘Cosmic Quiver,’ is fantastic if you like Indian-inspired music, or are just looking for something fresh and new to experience. Between the artist’s soulful vocals, the complex instrumentation and the pleasant vibes, there’s a lot to love here.
