Single Review: Harmony Dreamers "Pass It On"

“Pass It On” is the latest single from eclectic alternative band Harmony Dreamers, who broke into the scene earlier this year with their hit song, “I Come From Earth.” They’re a fantastically weird and pleasant band, and ever since the last single, we’ve been big fans. Hence why we’re eager to see if “Pass It On” lives up to the hype and quality of their last release. So, now that I’ve put it through it through the full review process, what do I think?

From the song’s opening moments, I found myself quite enthralled by the pleasingly smooth and sweet instrumentals. Harmony Dreamers have always specialized in exquisitely fascinating soundscapes and musical textures, and they’re here in spades on the new single. We always love when a band or artist plays through their strengths, and we’re happy to see that with “Pass It On.”

Despite that, the band also takes the opportunity to explore some new territory with this single. Where “I Come From Earth” presented itself as a quirky, wacky, but most importantly fun little tune, “Pass It On” is more somber and sweet. While it never dives into becoming an actual sad song, complete with all the common upsetting bells and whistles, it does delve into some new subject matter for the band.

Thankfully, Harmony Dreamers handle it cleverly, and it’s an uproarious success. The writing here is lovely and sweet, with many scenes being described in a beautifully picturesque manner. We’re big fans of good songwriting, and “Pass It On” does not disappoint, being poignant without blowing things out of proportion. Surprisingly, it’s quite subtle, and we appreciate it greatly.

On the musical front, as we’ve already mentioned, the single is rich and complex. Harmony Dreamers has always excelled at combining bizarre, wacky sounds with brilliant instrumentation to make a catchy, pleasant sound, and that’s especially true here. “Pass It On,” despite being a bit more laid back and stripped down compared to the band’s last single, is still a blissful listen through and through.

So, overall, does “Pass It On” live up to the high standards set by Harmony Dreamers? We’d say it does, and it achieves this with flying colours. Indeed, it’s difficult to find fault with the band and this single. Combining clever songwriting, well-rounded musical performances and a dash of unique panache is always a winning formula in music. In  this regard, the single is another great success, and we can’t wait to see more from the band.
