Shayne Cook "Miles Away" (Single Review)
Shayne Cook is a name that’s new to us, but we’ve been hearing about him within the world of music. Word of a musical storyteller who makes excellent use of the medium of his choice to really sell listeners on an idea, and that sounds pretty fascinating to us. We’ve decided to give his latest single, “Miles Away,” a deeper review, to see exactly what this artists has in store for us. So, does it live up to the lofty expectations we have for it, or does Shayne Cook not impress?
Opening the song, we’re instantly drawn in by the song’s infectious energy and smooth, almost jazz-influenced rhythm. We’re big suckers for when songs blend genres together, and Shayne Cook makes an incredible first impression with “Miles Away” thanks to a smooth country-jazz fusion that’s just candy for the ears. The instrumentation is smooth and enjoyable, with it really selling us early on.
It’s good then that the song continues this all throughout its runtime, changing things up here and there to keep things engaging and fun. “Miles Away” doesn’t allow itself to stagnate, introducing new elements and ideas at every turn that keeps your attention as a listener. The ideas here are fresh and fun, and it’s easy to get lulled into the fun vibe of it all.
When it comes to the quality of the writing on this single, we’re happy to report that it’s all quite good. “Miles Away” takes the approach of using vague but meaningful ideas to give the listener an idea of what the song is about. It allows listeners to draw their own conclusions as to what the message of the song is, and we can appreciate art that allows for interpretation. We believe the song’s about being true to yourself in the face of the world around you, which is a nice takeaway.

We’re also quite impressed with the production on this single, as it’s equal parts clean and grounded. There’s a certain sense of airiness to the sound and recording, but the performances are tight, making for a song that sounds dynamic and enjoyable. There’s a lot to enjoy with “Miles Away,” especially after peeling back the layers of the song and finding what makes it special.
“Miles Away” was a pleasant surprise for us, a country-jazz blend of fun sounds and interesting ideas that caught out attention and impressed in a bevy of different ways. Shayne Cook’s got a talent around creating engaging music, and now that we’re paying attention to him, we’re eager to hear more from him soon!
