Single Review: Barista "Dreams Remix B"

Through many a review, I’ve found that one of the most fun acts I’ve reviewed is Barista, an artist who seems to change up his style with every release. He manages to bring a little something new all the time, and it’s great to see. I’m floored then by his latest release, “Dreams Remix B”, a little remix of one of his past releases.

For those not in the know, the original “Dreams” is a soft rock song featuring predominantly acoustic guitars, light percussion and some soulful female vocals. It’s a mesmerizing song, and fits well with its title. So how then, do you remix something like this in a meaningful way that builds upon its namesake? Well, Barista shows us exactly how it’s done here.

“Dreams Remix B” is hard to describe, mainly because of just how many genres it combines together. It’s got the typical groove you’d look for in an EDM remix, but it also retains the rock stylings of Barista himself. On top of all this, you’ve also got the soulful vocal performance with larger than life percussion, and it all blends together in a surprisingly cohesive package.

The vocals take the lead throughout the song, with the role of second fiddle swapping between the lead synths, lead guitar and sometimes even throwing a bone to the slapping percussion. It shifts styles seamlessly, which is a big part of what makes these combinations work so well.

Perhaps the most surprising part about “Dreams Remix B” is how it still encapsulates what the original was going for. It’s still a pleasantly dreamy and mesmerizing song, simply done in a different way that distinguishes itself from its original version. In regards to being a remix, it passes with flying colors. As a standalone song, it also gets top marks, which is great to see.

Barista continues to be one of the most fun artists to watch, with “Dreams Remix B” being another showing to be proud of. If anything, we find the name to be a bit weird, where’s “Dreams Remix A” Barista? Jokes aside, definitely give this one a look, and his whole body of work while you’re at it.
