Album Review: Sugarcane Jane "On a Mission"

Sugarcane Jane, known for their harmonious blend of Americana, folk, and country music, comprises longtime Neil Young cohort, Anthony Crawford and his wife, Savana Lee. Their music delves into themes of love, life, and reflection through the lens of their rich Southern roots and personal experiences.

Produced by Crawford, and recorded at Admiral Bean Studios, their latest album, "On a Mission" proves that the duo's previous work was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to their catalog.  With a tracklist that includes first single, "Burn" (an iTunes charting hit across the pond!) and a handful of uplifting, Christian-themed songs, as well as several purpose-filled anthems of perserverance, "On a Mission" is 11 tracks of pure magic.

Check out songs like:

"Try to Make it Look Like Me" - This track plays with themes of identity and perception, perhaps touching on the pressures of conformity and the desire to maintain one's uniqueness in a homogenized society.

"On a Mission" - The title track serves as a thematic anchor for the album, discussing a purpose-driven life or the duo's personal and musical journey, underscored by a sense of determination and resolve.

"Spirit Push" - This track explores the influence of unseen forces, intuition, or spiritual guidance on one's life, suggesting a nudge towards destiny or important decisions.

Sugarcane Jane's "On a Mission" embodies a collection of songs that traverse a wide range of human emotions and experiences, marked by their signature harmonies, acoustic brilliance, and deeply personal storytelling. The  themes suggested by the track titles resonate with the duo's ability to craft songs that connect with listeners on a profound level, making "On a Mission" another noteworthy addition to their discography.
