Single Review: Pamela Hopkins "One Too Many"

One of the worst things to feel is heartbreak, but one thing you can do to help your romance blues is to listen to songs from artists going through the same thing. Pamela Hopkins’ “One Too Many” is a break-up ballad that reminds you of that relationship that sent you to the bar to overcome your sorrows. There’s nothing like a stiff drink to help you forget about a bad relationship.

Pamela effectively details the feelings and actions of someone who is heartbroken. She slips into a lull of ordering drink after drink, trying to forget memories that were once good and warm to her. It’s jarring how a break-up can change your perspective on things. With her descriptions, I can taste the whiskey, hear the love songs in the background, and feel the pain in my heart.

Her songwriting is immersive and relatable, and songs like that make us listen over and over again. With a talented, ringing voice, she sings through her blues, and it feels like we’re all huddled at the bar together, dealing with our heartbreak in unison. Songs about heartbreak help us feel less alone in the loneliest moments of our lives, and that’s why these songs strike us so deeply and continually keep playing on our speakers.
