iQiyi, an innovative market-leading online entertainment service based in Asia, has announced their first anniversary today since launching in the U.S with a slew of celebratory news in streaming entertainment for their global audience. With families stuck at home during the pandemic, the global streaming platform had an exponential growth in downloads, users and streams - with the highest increase by 10% in the last 6 months in just the U.S., and 13.5% in Canada. Formerly known as the “Netflix of Asia,” the platform is rapidly expanding outside of China into new territories with original content and fresh opportunities. To help celebrate the one-year anniversary, this beloved home of Asian entertainment, kicked off an event at their North America headquarters in Toronto with new brand reveals, shared rising trends and their first-half results of its top performing programs in both the United States and Canada. 
 
Already known for their original content in popular Asian TV dramas, reality shows, variety programs and more, the company made waves entering the internet entertainment categories in the U.S., by recently becoming available through Amazon Fire Stick; ultimately offering an unparalleled level of accessibility for new fans. “Appetite for Chinese language content is growing steadily worldwide and iQiyi is paving the path forward. In the North America region, 77% of respondents from the United States and 80% from Canada said they recently began the journey of Chinese entertainment. On iQiyi, hit programs such as "My Roommate Is Gumiho", "My Dear Guardian", "Moonlight", "The Day of Becoming You", "Girl's Planet 999", "Youth With You 3" received over 12M accumulated views in the first half of 2021 and ranked as the most popular shows. The streaming service offer programs that all audiences can watch, even familiar faces such as Lisa from BLACKPINK who returned for her second season in a row on “You With You 3,” as well as other celebrity judges and a Los Angeles-based DJ duo who participated in the show.
 
 
Up next for the company is the platform’s debut on Roku, releasing in the fall of 2021. As the demand for foreign content has grown significantly, the company continues to find more ways to be accessible in the U.S.; always offering its content for free. With plans for further expansion- both internally and externally, C-Suite staff are being hired in the U.S. to reflect a new global vision from the streaming brand. A recent breakthough on the platform with hopes of gaining more viewers comes from within the growing conversations on diversity and the LGBTQ+ community internationally; further highlighting their inclusivity in content offerings.
 
A pilot study recently surveyed 5,200 respondents across 26 countries in August* and showed that a promising 76% of global respondents started sampling Chinese dramas within the past two years, with 43% watching this content on streaming platforms. 1 in 2 of those surveyed also claimed to enjoy watching C-dramas and will recommend C-dramas they like to others.
